SYNOPSIS

A petty thief with an utter resemblance to a warlord is hired as his double. When the warlord later dies the thief is forced to take up arms in his place.

The New king, the thief, is fascinated by his new job where people are obeying him and behaving respectfully. He plays his role with accuracy. But he can't get rid of his character of being a thief.

This play is designed in Tiatr format with live music. This Hindi play is inspired by Akira Kurosawa's film 'Kagemusha'.

Treatment

This play will be designed in a Tiatr format with the use of Chitrakathi form in which there will be use of paintings to narrate the story visually. Also there will be Goan folk music Inspired from 'Tiatr' which is called kantar.

Making use of puppets and masks will outline the characters with the playful nature of Goan folk theatre.

Tiatr

Tiatr which means theatre is an interesting traditional Goan performance in Goa that involves 6 or 7 acts called Podd'dde, which are of short duration of around 15 minutes. "Konkani tiatr" popular for its high entertainment value, is a dramatic art form unique to Goa coming from Portuguese theatre culture.

Chitrakathi

Chitrakathi is an oral storytelling tradition, once popular in the Maharashtra-Karnataka region of the southwestern coastal belt . 'Chitra' means painting and 'katha' is a story. Chitrakathi developed in the form of small finely painted images about historic or religious events. Chitrakathi now exists in Maharashtra only (and is on verge of extinction) because of the devotion and faith of its practitioners in their own heritage. They largely depict stories from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. Traditionally a single person would recite the story in baithak format with the live music and songs. 

Theatre Flamingo will be experimenting with Chitrakathi painting to mix with the Tiatr form. These will be a blend of narration & visual poetry with two different forms. Chitrakathi which comes from the Konkan Region of Maharashtra and Tiatr which comes from Portuguese rule over India. Also movement vocabularies of actors on stage will be researched upon Goan folk practices and Kalaripayattu, the oldest martial arts from Kerala
