STORYBOARDING FOR FILMS – VISHWAJYOTI GHOSH

Much before we make a film, the tougher part is planning a film so that we have a smoother film making process. And this is where Storyboarding helps. Storyboarding is like making a film on paper. Planning a film shot by shot and noting the details that must be there in the film. It's a visual checklist that helps us in making the film we thought of to the real film we end up making. The best filmmakers use storyboards. So should you! At least try using one!

SCRIPTWRITING: FROM TELL TO SHOW

You have a storehouse of stories, narrated or written, either for your own pleasure or perhaps in English classes. Very few of them have as yet been translated onto the screen as films but you plan to do so. After all, what is a movie but an absorbing story narrated the story visually and most film projects begin with a strong story with interesting events and fascinating characters. As the storywriter, you have to bring on board producers, director, cast and crew to make the project a reality: a producer convinced about the saleability of a story; a director with the creative vision to interpret your story; actors intent on the range and impact of their roles; a cinematographer to visualize the scenes; and a music director to add to the moods of your story. Each of these creative partners needs different levels of script with different emphases at different points of the production to respond to their specific concerns. Obviously, you need not one script but different kinds of scripts from start to finish of the project.

In this workshop, we will look a look at five stages of scriptwriting and explore the features and purposes of each stage. We will describe the interim stages of scriptwriting in planning to shoot a film with a full-fledged script. We will detail the elements of a complete script and when, why and at what stages each element can be added.
