Session description

Each session will focus on one composition and will start with a brief description that provides information about the poet, the metaphors and images used in the verse to be sung, as well as other details relevant to the music and literature. The introduction will be followed by practical teaching of the composition. Each participant will also be given time to sing the composition individually so that corrections may be suggested if required. 

* Each composition is an original, composed by the Master herself.

* A Q&A segment will conclude each session. 

Session 1 to 4 - The Nirgun verses (4 sessions of 2 hours each)

Language

The verses include Brajbhasha, Awadhi as well as mixtures of several dialects of Hindi. A PDF copy of all the verses as well as brief notes about each verse will be provided to the participants at the end of the masterclass. 

Post session

Participants will be encouraged to upload recordings of the compositions they learn to a password protected Soundcloud account if they wish to receive comments and suggestions from the teacher. All participants receive certificates of course completion, with a personal note from the Master.

For who

Anyone with an intermediate-level understanding of Hindustani classical music, the concepts of raag and taal.

About the Master

Shubha Mudgal is a name recognised and respected not just among the classical music fraternity, but among musicians and listeners in genres as varied as Pop and Bollywood.

Trained by eminent scholar-musician-composer Pandit Ramashreya Jha “Ramrang”, Shubha Mudgal has also received guidance from Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar. She later learnt stylistic techniques from well-known maestros Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit Kumar Gandharva. She also received training in thumri from Smt. Naina Devi and is thus a versatile and popular performer.

In addition to being a performer, Shubha Mudgal has also won recognition as a composer. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Shri from the Government of India in the year 2000.
