About the Event
Pataliputra or Patna, one of the oldest inhabited places in the world, was founded on the southern bank of the river Ganga in 490 CE by the king of Magadha. Since then, it has been the capital of the Magadha Empire under different dynasties, namely the Nanda, Mauryan, Shunga and Gupta dynasties. Kumhrar, located in the eastern side of the city, is significant due to the ruins of ancient Pataliputra from the Mauryan era that were found in an excavation carried out from 1912-15.
Remains of the assembly hall of 80 pillars from the Mauryan Era have been found here along with other structures, such as Arogya Vihar, Anand Vihar, remains of a Buddhist monastery, and Durakhi Devi Temple, which was revealed in the excavations of the 1890s. Presently, all these ruins have been enclosed in a park to showcase the ancient capital of Magadha and the rich collection of relics from four consecutive periods.
So, come and join in to uncover the rich history of ancient Pataliputra.
