THE NINTH ISLE 2020 #AndamanCleanup
Join us for a four day weekend of remote island frolicking, beach clean-ups, yoga classes, dinners and live electronic music performances, from Thursday to Monday, 23rd - 27th January 2020 in the Andaman Islands, India.
Producers and live performers Jacob Groening, O/Y (DE), ĀRĀ (DE), Troja (IN), Robosonic (DE), Stephanie Szankay (USA), Kosha (IN) and Richie Thomas (IN) and other beloved artists will be showcasing their sounds throughout our stay.
This not-for-profit event is raising awareness about the critical problems facing our planet as a result of continued plastic accumulation. We are working together with local initiative "Kachrewaale - The Waste People" to ensure that the beach clean-ups are appropriately managed and documented.

SUMMARY OF THE ITINERARY
23rd January, Thursday
- Today will be just about meeting on the island (location released to ticket holders only) in the evening at 6, at a favourite beach restaurant of ours.
24th January, Friday
- Starting today, we’ll take up the clean-up drive head-on. You’ll receive a map and the program in your room, as the schedule is dependant on the tides and other last minute factors. We all meet again in the evening from 5 for a community buffet and slow dance music on the beach, with artists who are coming all the way from Berlin, New York and India! Fresh warm snacks will also be available to purchase throughout the evening.
25th January, Saturday
- Our second beach cleanup day starts at our agreed info point and takes place at different locations and will continue until 5 in the evening when we gather for a crew meet-up with yummy local food and slow dancing on the beach.
26th January, Sunday
- We meet for a ‘Wasted Treasure Hunt’ and for one last celebration of all our work over the weekend, at our final crew gathering where there'll be food, music and dancing late into the night.

THE ISLAND
We will release the name of the island to ticket holders only. The island has a population of less than 5000 people and is only 15sqkm in area, with a fragile ecosystem that balances tourism and resources. Some would argue that this balance has already been lost and that the island's natural state is threatened to a point that continued inhabitation may be impossible. Keeping the island's identity a secret accept to ticket holders is important to protect this ecosystem as has been advised by locally based NGO representatives.
ACTIVITIES ON THE ISLAND
The island’s natural beauty offers:-
- White sand, kilometre long beaches untouched by human development
- Excellent snorkelling, diving and shore/sea fishing possible throughout the day
- Jungle walks, secret beach hikes and many places to explore
- Restaurants offering locally grown/caught ingredients and prepared fresh.
FACTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING
° A visa is required by most foreign nationals visiting India
° There are mosquitos on the island so please bring protection. Nets are available at all accommodations
° There is no / very little internet access on the Andaman Islands.
° We recommend pre-ordering Wifi time and alcohol to make sure you have what you need.
