Get ready for ART MUMBAI 2024. From November 14-17, immerse yourself in a finely curated fair featuring Indian and global modern and contemporary art at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Mumbai. This year ART MUMBAI, presented by Birla Opus is back with a broader, more diverse collection of art from around the world.

 

Experience the dynamic sculpture walk, featuring large-scale installations that bring the fair to life. Dive into thought-provoking discussions with the speaker series, exploring Mumbai's artistic legacy and Indian art's evolving significance on the international stage, among other engaging topics.

SPEAKER SERIES 

Building Legacies: Foundations and Futures of Art Institutions in the Region 

12 PM — 1 PM | On—site Birla Opus Auditorium 

South Asia and its neighbours are witnessing a rise in philanthropy in the arts as major private institutional spaces, which are designed for public use, are opening their doors. 

Panellists: Kiran Nadar, Rajeeb Samdani, and Sangita Jindal. Moderated by: Minal Vazirani 


Cultural Currents: A Look at How South Asian Art Identity is Defined 

2 PM — 3 PM | On—site Birla Opus Auditorium 

A panel that invites audiences to reconsider the geographical, historical and cultural boundaries of the South Asian region and whether they are relevant today.  

Panellists: Amin Jaffer and Shanay Jhaveri. Moderated by: Deepanjana Klein


Rising Power: Discussing the Indian Art Market’s Position and Trajectory 

3:30 PM — 4:30 PM | On—site Birla Opus Auditorium 

Delve into the rise of the Indian art market as panellists discuss how wealth is being circulated today, amended provisions regarding capital gains tax, and India’s position on a global stage. 

Panellists: Anders Petterson, Dinesh Vazirani, and Samsuddha Majumder. Moderated by: Kabir Jhala


Performance: The Fall of Hope by Gurjeet Singh

5 PM- 5:30 PM | Arches

This performance is an introspective exploration of the psychological impact of hate, bullying, and the fragility of the human experience.

A panel that looks at how immersive and experiential art experiences are changing the way in which audiences engage and interact with art. 

Panellists: Fatema Pittalwla, Odyssée Bouvyer, and Tejal Patni. Moderated by: Vasudhaa Narayanan


Gateway to Influence: Mumbai’s Cultural Soft Power 

2:30 PM — 3:30 PM | On—site Birla Opus Auditorium 

Mumbai’s cultural catalysts, creative visionaries, and industry experts come together to explore how the city is reshaping perceptions, fostering innovation, and heralding India’s cultural renaissance on the world stage. 

Panellists: Karishma Swali, and Pavitra Rajaram. Moderated by: Asad Lalljee

At 100: Celebrating 100 years of Indian Art History through FN Souza, VS Gaitonde and Ram Kumar 

4 PM — 5 PM | On—site Birla Opus Auditorium 

Looking back at the centennial year of Souza, Gaitonde and Ram Kumar who, along with their contemporaries, aimed to create an artistic language that would reflect the changing realities of a newly independent country and establish an internationally recognised presence for Indian Modernism. 

Panellists: Dadiba Pundole, Dara Mehta, and Roobina Karode. Moderated by: Kamini Sawhney


In Conversation with Karan Johar 

6 PM — 7 PM | Stage 

ART MUMBAI’s Cultural Ambassador, Karan Johar is coming back to the stage to talk about the creative confluence of art, culture and the city. 


ART MUMBAI Extended Hours 

Performance: An Evening of Dance - Directed by Pia Sutaria

7:30 PM — 8:30 PM | Stage 

Dancers of the Indian Youth Dance Company & ICMD India led by Pia Sutaria will perform Sukshma choreographed by Neeraj Lohani with a score by Maqta, as well as Samaaj choreographed and joined by Jainil Mehta. The evening will also include solo performances by Neeraj Lohani, Vidushi D’Souza, Saumya Nigam and Deeksha Khatwani.

Pia Sutaria is a graduate of the “Royal Academy of Music” where she was a recipient of the Disney Theatrical Scholarship and is also a registered teacher with the “Royal Academy of Dance”, London. Most recently, Pia played the principal role “Mala” in the UK tour of the musical “Bombay Superstar” and also performed with the Welsh National Opera’s “Migrations”, and “Settling” at the Criterion Theatre, London. Pia has performed in India and Internationally for over a decade and has toured internationally with “Navdhara India Dance Theatre” in Turkey, Israel, Canada, USA, and Japan. A soloist at the, “National Centre for the Performing Arts” and the, “Royal Opera House”, in Mumbai, Pia has also represented global brands like Dove, Jockey, Puma, and Nike as a recognised Ballerina in India. She recently gave a TEDx talk on dance and classical ballet in India.

In 2018, Pia founded the “Institute of Classical and Modern Dance” to fill the deep void that existed for vocational training for young dancers in India. As a result, Pia’s vision is to make vocational training in dance accessible to young artists. Moreover, to make Ballet, an otherwise elitist art form, to be within the grasp of anyone who wants to pursue it. The school has successfully sent students on scholarships to top performing arts Institutions in Europe, the UK, and USA.

Ctrl+Art+Create: Discussing the Collaboration, Ethics and Future of Art and AI

Delve into the potential of Al to evolve from tool and medium to collaborator thereby challenging the definitions of art, creativity, modes of creation, ethics and laws surrounding art and Al. 

Panellists: Dinesh Moorjani, Nikhil Naredran, and Prateek Arora. Moderated by: Asad Lalljee

Creating Through Crisis : Women Artists and Conflict Zones

Using visual art as a lens, this panel aims to shed light on the immense contributions of women in conflict zones, giving us the opportunity to inspire future generations, challenge gender norms, and foster a more equitable society. 

Panellists: Ita Mehrotra, Navjot Altaf, and Shilpa Gupta. Moderated by: Nancy Adajania

Performance: The Gentlemen’s Club

This play invites the audiences to enter Mumbai's pulsating underground club scene and follow the exhilarating lives of the city's drag kings. Featuring a dazzling mix of dance, music and projection, this show unfolds an exciting and provocative narrative celebrating artists and their exploration of masculinity. 


WORKSHOP: Snap and Seek

2 PM — 4 PM | Birla Opus Activity Wall

Ages 10 and above

Join us for a photography scavenger hunt guided by award winning photographer, Sameer Parekh. 

Participants will learn photography basics and capture unique shots in ART MUMBAI’s Sculpture Walk
