Life is devoid of meaning. It is reason enough to get together and discover the paradoxical silliness of the human condition. And who does it better than Samuel Beckett. His tragicomic look at human existence offers work that defines black comedy and absurdism.
The Shakti Ensemble brings you three of Beckett’s shorter plays (Not I, Breath and Act Without Words II) with the hope that you’ll question your own existence and find no easy answers.
‘Bebaak Beckett’ is a multilingual piece exploring the psycho-physical approach and its expression in voice, body and breath.
Lakshika created a dance-drama production called “Walking Naked", based on a book by the same name, exploring female spirituality through showcasing the lives of four female saints of India.
Also an actor and teacher, Lakshika has acted in numerous plays and regularly conducts workshops.
Manoj Sharma has been working as a performing artiste for the past 4 years in the field of Theatre, Feature Films, Ads and Web-Series. He has been training in variety of disciplines comprising gymnastics, taekwondo, freestyle dance and mime. His credentials include working in experimental theatre with Helen O Grady International as a lead actor and has also acted in plays such as The Tempest, Moksh, Fandi, Bade Bhai Sahab and Taj Mahal ka Tender.
Nisha Gulati is an award winning yoga professional, dance artist, choreographer, voice artist, and an upcoming actress who shuttles between New York and Mumbai. In acting, Nisha has trained at Stella Adlers and HB Studios in New York and had the wonderful of experience of attending workshops conducted by Adishakti and Theatre Professionals in India. She has dabbled with various theatre and television productions along with short films. Currently she is working on her craft, learning Chhau, and pursuing acting opportunities in India and the US.
An actor, singer and theater enthusiast, Avi Upadhyay is a software engineer currently working in an American bank. Having performed in various plays in his college in Bangalore and his hometown Patna in the past 5 years, he has also penned down and directed a few plays and has worked in a documentary film. The youngest member of our group, Avi is all set to perform in his first play in Mumbai and is quite excited about exploring Samuel Beckett's work.
Arpita Banerjee is trained in Bharatanatyam, Jazz contemporary dance, Chhau and mixed martial art forms, Hindustani semi classical and Rabindra Sangeet (singing). She graduated from Delhi University with a degree in English literature which contributed largely to her vocabulary of stories. She has acted in feature films which include 2 Netflix releases - 'Revelations' (parallel lead) & 'Love & Shukla' (cameo). Pinky Beauty Parlour (supporting role) is ahead of release in 2018. All have won accolades in festivals worldwide. Her theatre experience includes Manav Kaul's Laal Pencil, Purva Naresh's Ok Tata Bye Bye, Subrat Dutta's NOY or Nothing among others. Arpita has had the fortune of performing at Prithvi Theatre, NCPA, Sophaya's, Andrew's and other prestigious venues.
Rohilla Singh is from Lucknow. She enjoys doing yoga and loves to dance. Theatre is her first love, it motivates and helps her expand her horizon. Her theatre journey started from Lucknow, where she was part of many plays. Rohilla has been featured in a documentary for ABP news. She has done a short film and has been part of feature film “Tadka” directed by Prakash Raaj . She has acted in episodics like Crime Patrol, Confessions of an Indian teenager, Darr Sabko Lagta Hai , Laal Ishq etc. She has been featured alongside Vidhya Balan in a public service ad. She has also done ads for Unicef and Lifebouy.
Sushant Shetty has been into acting since 8 years now. His work includes theatre with independent groups like Umang, Pritha and Surnai. His last involvement as an actor was with Surmai theatre director - KK Raina and Ila Arun in a production called ‘Peer Ghani’. He has also been part of web shows and short films which includes TVF’s short ‘Ayan’, which won the short film festival ‘Shuruat ka Interval’ in 2014. He also featured in TV series like ‘Kutubkhana’ and ‘Girl in the City’. He has lately been trying to explore newer acting dimensions through workshops like Adishakti, clowning, etc.
Saurabh Singh has three years of theatre experience in Delhi with InduArt Film and Theatre Society. For the last six years he has been based in Mumbai and done several short films, ads, TV shows and plays.
Sukesh Mishra started his journey with the theatre group IPTA in Delhi. He then moved to Mumbai and got his first break with the film ‘The Attacks of 26/11’ where he played the character of a terrorist. He then went on to do several advertisements, “Limca Pyass Badhao” being the most popular among them. He also has the experience of working in more than 35 episodic shows like Yeh Hai Aashiqi, Love by Chance, Gumraah, Crime Patrol and Savdhaan India.
