Bhangarh Fort and Ancient Site, Bhangarh
One of the most haunted places in India, Bhangarh Fort was constructed in the 17th century by Madho Singh, the younger brother of Emperor Akbar’s general, Man Singh I. The Archeological Survey of India has event put up a board on the fort gate that says it is prohibited for tourists to stay inside the fort area after sunset and before sunrise. Situated on the border of Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar district of Rajasthan, there are several paranormal legends that are reported by locals and others. One story goes back to the time when a wizard cursed the town which led to its destruction. Another legend is about how a local black magician fell in love with the princess, who later became the cause of the apocalyptic situation which befell the fort. Today, although the fort lies in ruins, one can revel in the beauty of the Bhangarh Fort and the Aravali hills looming upfront.
