Devarayana Durga
Devarayanadurga, is a small temple town situated amidst the lush greenery and in the valley surrounded by small hills of Devarayanadurga State Forest. Though there are a number of places around within the radius of 80 kms that are really beautiful, the ride to Devarayanadurga is an experience in itself. Starting with a short but monotonous ride on the Bangalore- Pune highway which then takes a turn at Dabaspete towards an exciting road that passes through the countryside. Throughout the ride one gets to see the distant hills that seem to be teasing you with the words, “Come and get your love” ;) .
It is often referred to as a hill station, with the temperatures dropping significantly soon after one enters the arch after Urdigere, I wouldn’t be surprised about that at all.
Legend says that Lord Brahma the creator of the Universe, has performed penance to please Lord Vishnu for several thousand years. Impressed by his penance, Lord Vishnu has incarnated himself as Lord Narasimha here at the Bhoga Narasimha Temple.
Nijagal Betta
Nijagal Betta is located between Debbaspete and Tumkur which is around 65 km away from Bangalore. It is beautiful place and lesser known place compared to other hillocks and mountains around it.
The peak is home to a beautiful temple and dargah signifying the religious unity of India.
The story behind the fort goes something like this, The Maratha empire, which was till then torn by internal strife suddenly reasserted itself under Madhava Rao I. The Maratha army under his leadership began an unstoppable, whirlwind expedition to wipe out Hyder Ali. Beginning with Adoni, Madhava Rao took Bellary, Kurnool, Devadurga, Rayadurga, Kolar, Bhairavgad (near Bangalore), Devarayanadurga (near Tumkur), and reached Nijagal, en route to his final destination, Srirangapatana, Hyder Ali’s capital.
The trek is a short one of 2 KMs passing through rocks and involves a good rock climbing session as well. Owing to the slippery nature of the rocks during monsoons, one needs to be careful during the climb in that season.
