Popularized by the 2003 release of The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, the Cryptex has had worldwide appeal to avid puzzle collectors. Coined from the combination of the words cryptology and codex, its use of “the science of cryptology” secures and protects secrets written on parchment contained within.

Cryptex puzzle box is like a portable vault used to hide secret messages. The Cryptex functions similar to a bicycle combination lock. Discs must be positioned in an exact manner to spell out the correct password. Tumblers inside align allowing the inner cylinder to slide apart, protecting the contents in the inner space. In the workshop, you will be learning to make a cardboard cryptex with a four-letter code and hide a letter inside it.
