Bat Travels organizes tours for sighted and visually impaired people to travel together as travel pals. As a travel pal when you explain the visual surrounding to an unsighted person, you start noticing more. And the unsighted person is in turn making you notice a peculiar smell, or a faint sound. So say hello to a totally new way of travelling. And join us on our next trip: Sikkim, which exists in our world but is unlike ours. Sikkim is the land of waterfalls, Teesta, wild flowers, mountain ranges and crisp air. Hospitable people, distinct culture and food that's very different from what we eat in the rest of the country. Come with us as we explore monasteries, meet monks, listen to local people sing to us, and cook us their food. See Sikkim with us.
Day 1
You will have to reach NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport. We get picked up from there and drive to Gangtok. It’s almost a 4-hour drive from NJP station and Bagdogra airport. We check into our hotel. We are staying in a homestay, away from the bustle Gangtok city. This homestay is nestled between two waterfalls and overlooks the city. You can enjoy a walk through the nearby jungle, or walk up to the nearby villages or just sit beside the river that flows nearby.
We spend the night in Gangtok.
Day 2
We go to Enchey Monastery and witness the prayer ceremony of the monks. Won’t it be enchanting to hear the monks chant in unison and as we turn the prayer wheels. We walk around the valley and breath in some crisp air. Later in the day we go to a nearby waterfall and try our hand at rope traversing. Yes, we slide over a rope near the waterfall.
We spend the night in Gangtok.
Day 3
We go to Nathula Pass today, the Indo-China border situated at an altitude of 12,400 ft. Just one barbed wire will keep you away from stepping into China. We also go to Tsomgo Lake, it is a glacial lake and remains frozen during winters. It looks serene and peaceful, nestled between two mountains. We also experience yak ride here. The furry and sturdy animal is quite a ride. We spend the night in Gangtok.
(Note: The visit to Nathula Pass is heavily dependent on weather conditions.)
Day 4
After breakfast we drive to West Sikkim via South Sikkim. On the way we visit a Tea Garden. We walk the Tea Garden trail and then go to the tea factory to smell different kinds of tea leaves. We do our own tea tasting. And this is where you buy tea for people back home, if you want to, that is.
We then drive down to Singshore Bridge. It’s an engineering marvel and the second highest suspension bridge in Asia. Running between two hills, once on it you will hear the tripping sound of waterfalls, feel the gush of wind and the sway of the suspension bridge.
From there we go to Buddha Garden. The centerpiece of this garden is a 130ft statue of Buddha. If we are lucky we might just see some tulips. But seasonal flowers will be in bloom, and you can also hear the humming chants of monks at a nearby monastery.
We then arrive at Okheray. We get a traditional welcome here and enjoy some local food for dinner.
Day 5
We take a hike with village volunteers to Rhododendron Sanctuary and some flower valleys. Get ready for so many different kinds of smells.
Later in the day we will enjoy a cultural evening with locals playing us some music. We stay at Okhrey village.
Day 6
After breakfast we drive to NJP railway station or Bagdogra airport.
