ABOUT THE WALK

It’s incredible how so many majestic trees exist in our neighbourhoods, in parks, gardens and on roadsides - and we’re often not even aware of it. We will take you on a walk that introduces you to your neighbourhood trees, teaches you more about them and how to protect and care for them. Sarvodaya enclave lies in a very fertile soil belt of Delhi, the terrai of the Aravalli Ridge forest, with nutrient rich soil deposited over many millennia.

This area has a variety of trees and plants and has grown greener over the years, with the help of several active nature and tree lovers and a progressive RWA. Some of my most memorable neighbourhood tree walks have been in Sarvodaya, a long, long time ago, and I felt it was time to do another one. So much has happened in this colony since then – like Delhi's first citizen-led Tree Census. And the adoption of lovely grass pavers around the trees, that allow the roadside trees to breathe and thrive while providing an even walking and even car parking surface to the layman. And these trees are so lovely to look at! We will also examine what the ideal trees for Delh are, especially for residential areas, parks, roads and homes. So come, and join us on this walk that introduces us to our natural friendly neighbours.

ABOUT THE WALK PARTNER

Ajay Mahajan is a naturalist, a tree lover, an educator, an ecological farmer and a gardener. He has been going on and leading nature and tree walks for over three decades, in his own unique, experiential style, and has managed to create a special space for everyone to be one with the trees and nature in their own personal way.
