A retrospective of play by Manjula Padmanaban presented by Prakriti Foundation
This is streaming of an Excerpt video of the plays followed by a discussion with the playwright and the creators.
Adaptation or rehearsed readings from the book of plays (Laughter & Blood, Blood & Laughter).
Both the plays are directed by V.Balakrishnan of Theatre Nisha.
V. Balakrishnan, an alumnus of Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts (New Delhi), and the National School of Drama (New Delhi), is the founder and artistic director of Theatre Nisha (Chennai) that has staged over 120 plays in the past 20 years in over 25 international, national, and regional theatre festivals. He was awarded the Charles Wallace Scholarship to attend an International Residency for Young Directors with the Royal Court Theatre, London. In his career as a theatre artist, he has directed over 200 plays, acted in over 150 plays and written over 15 scripts. He is empanelled with the ICCR as Theatre Director and has been a theatre educator for over 20 years. In 2017, he was awarded the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching.
Theatre Nisha was established in 2000 with the performance of Harold Pinter’s Ashes to Ashes. Since its inception, the company has been known to choose scripts that reflect the society in its truest forms and performed over 120 plays that range from mythology to ‘in-yer-face’ which have included international playwrights such as Albert Camus, Harold Pinter, Sarah Kane, etc; ancient playwrights like Bhasa, Kalidasa, Seneca, Euripides, etc; and modern Indian playwrights like Girish Karnad, Rajiv Naik, Chandrashekara Kambara, etc. and several in-house written plays. The company has performed in over 25 international, national, and regional theatre festivals and regularly conducts workshops for students, teachers, actors, playwrights, and directors.
