ABOUT KAVERI SHELAR
Kaveri Shelar attained a BFA in Textile Designing from Sir J.J School of Art, Mumbai (1997) and an MA in History from Mumbai University, Mumbai (2008). Kaveri exhibited at Nehru Center, Mumbai (20014). She has remained a judge for several competition held at Sophia College, Sydenham College and J.J School of Art. She is experienced in drawing and design, printing, dyeing and weaving. She has remained a Lecturer of Textile Art and Designing at Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai for 19 years.
WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT
The workshop will start with an introduction on the history and process of Batik. After which a demo will be shown to the participants. The participants will then individually pursue the following method demonstrated on the fabric provided. Within the first half of the class they will have learnt to dye the wax with the first colour. In the second half, they will carry out the process of dyeing the wax with a second colour. They would then wait for it to dry after which they would learn to de-wax the product to achieve the final outcome.

- Cotton fabric (15”X15”)
- Carbon Paper
- Stoves & Kerosene
- Copper bottom vessels
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING - 2 Newspapers
- 1 Pencil
- Rough cloth to wipe their hands
- Apron (Optional)
WHO SHOULD ATTEND Open to all age groups above 12 years. No prior experience required. Tea and light refreshments will be served.
