About the Event
It’s time to get your hands dirty and create something beautiful with ‘Pottery at the farm’ at Edible Routes. A soothing and relaxing technique you can engage in. Pottery at the farm is a workshop where you can learn basic pottery skills. This workshop for adults and children explores mitti beyond what we usually do at the farm. Renowned potter Aniruddh Sagar will introduce adults and older children to the pottery wheel, while initiating younger children to non-wheel techniques of pottery.
What is ceramic? Ceramic is a form of clay which can be fired up to or above 1200 degree Celsius. Different types of clay bodies like terracotta, stoneware, porcelain etc. exist that are heated to different temperatures. This workshop will give you an introduction to various hand building techniques such as - pinching, coiling, slab work, mould-casting, relief work etc. On the wheel it will get you acquainted with techniques like centring the clay, throwing , pulling etc.
Children below the age of 10 will have a chance to play with mud, learn pottery without wheel in the morning, and share in gardening activities in the afternoon. Older participants will learn about organic gardening and join in farm activities in the first half, and will be introduced to handwork pottery and the pottery wheel in the afternoon.
Come join us for two days of creative mediation in the middle of a vegetable farm
About the instructor:
Aniruddh Sagar, student of Shampa Shah and P .R Daroz, belongs to Bhopal and has been living in Delhi since two years. He won the prestigious Best potter award from Aiface in 2007, and had a solo show at the lalik kala academi in Delhi.
His take on pottery: “I love to play with clay, I love its touch. When I hold clay, my hand automatically starts moulding it in some shapes which come consciously or unconsciously in my heart and mind. I love nature, and clay is a very important part of nature. So it comes in my works too. I make mountains, I carve birds, clouds, trees, river etc. on my platters. If also feel that doing pottery or, I must say, doing art, is itself a meditation. It gives self satisfaction."!
