About the Event
The Mumbai Assembly, in association with Romel Dias, presents a new-age delight for all music lovers in the city, The Listening Sessions.
What is it about?
Sharing videos amongst friends and discussing the various creative aspects of the videos has become a part of our daily life. The Listening Sessions work on the same concept and began as an informal set-up by Romel Dias at his home. The previous sessions have focussed on gender fluidity in music videos of the 80's and classic independent videos based on feminist concepts in India.
What/who will be discussed?
Michael Bay (Armageddon, Transformers). Marc Webb (500: Days of Summer, The Amazing Spiderman). Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Her). Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mood Indigo), David Fincher (Fight Club, Gone Girl).
Five filmmakers who’ve defined pop-culture across genres.
All these directors have one thing in common. They directed music videos in their early days, before they became the icons they are. The session will have a look at some of their early videos and discuss how they may or may not have foreshadowed or even influenced what these filmmakers went on to achieve, or the themes running through their work.
Who will be speaking?
Pradeep Menon is a writer and filmmaker based in Bombay. That makes him unproductive for the most; except when inspiration strikes or when a corporate client needs a film yesterday. Pradeep is also a Contributing Writer with Firstpost. And, like most of Andheri West, he is writing his first feature film script.
Kasmin Fernandes is a journalist with Mid Day who has been covering the music scene in the country for more than a decade. Formerly, music edtior at Bombay Times, she is currently writing a book on the indie music scene in India.
