The teams lock horns in a three-way tournament, playing across 5 days at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi.
About the teams
About Girona Football Club:Founded in 1930, Girona FC entered the professional soccer league in 2008 after 49 years playing in lower categories. Girona FC promoted to La Liga for the first time in its history in June 2017, having reached the play-offs three times the previous four seasons. In August 2017, City Football Group, together with Girona Football Group, acquired the Spanish football club Girona FC in an equal partnership deal (44.3% by each party). In its first season in the highest category, Girona FC defeated Real Madrid, the current Champions League winner, at the Montilivi stadium. The team finished the season in the 10th position, fighting until the end to reach European positions and becoming one of the best beginner in LaLiga’s history.
About Melbourne City Football Club:Melbourne City Football Club competes in the major Australian domestic competitions, the Hyundai A-League, the Westfield W-League and the Foxtel Y-League. The Club, formerly known as Melbourne Heart FC, was established in 2009, inspired by a vision for a broad-based community team, celebrating cultural diversity and sporting passion through football.
Becoming known as Melbourne City FC in 2014, the Club is wholly owned by City Football Group (CFG) and plays its home games at the 30,000 capacity AAMI Park stadium in Melbourne, where the Club celebrated its first ever silverware, the FFA Cup, in November 2016.
Managed by Warren Joyce, City’s training and administrative base is at City Football Academy (CFA) Melbourne on the campus of La Trobe University. CFA Melbourne features advanced new training pitches for the Melbourne City first team, two elite women’s and youth team pitches, dedicated community pitches, world class medical and sports science facilities and expansive office space.
It is also CFG’s centre for football operations in the Asia Pacific region and the training and administration base for the women’s team, Melbourne City Women’s FC, which was founded in 2015 and competes in the W-League, the top division of women’s football in Australia.
