About the Event
The walk explores one of the most dynamic Medieval history architecture which has a huge water tank, boarding school and the tomb of Emperor Firoz Shah Tughlaq all in one complex. In the early fourteenth century, the large hauz (tank) was built by Emperor Alauddin Khilji to supply water to his new founded city ‘Siri’ in New Delhi. The Hauz is so huge that it is impossible to see the end of the lake! A walking path and an extensive garden surround the lake, making it a delight for people who love a walk in the nature.
The Medieval College around the lake was built by the Emperor Firoz Shah Tughlaq known as ‘Madarsa-e-Firoz Shahi’. It was the institution of higher education that became a prime locus of learning in the medieval times. As you take the walk, you can explore the Medieval hostel rooms, classrooms, assembly hall of the students and experience how it must have felt to study 800 years ago!
The highest building in the complex is the Tomb of Firoz Shah Tughlaq, the patron himself. The building stands at the junction of two wings of the Madarsa buildings surrounded by a beautiful garden. The lavishly ornate ceilings and the carved marble cenotaph burial in a silent chamber attest to the nuanced taste of the Emperor.
