Dr. Julia Schaletzky serves as the Executive Director of CEND (the Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases) and the Immunotherapy and Vaccine Research Initiative at UC Berkeley. Her academic and professional journey includes training under Prof. Francis Barr at the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany, as well as at Harvard Medical School in Prof. Tom Rapoport`s laboratory.

With over a decade of industry experience in the biotechnology sector, she has made significant contributions to the development of pioneering therapies for heart failure and neurodegenerative diseases. At UC Berkeley, her primary focus has been on promoting translational science and entrepreneurship within the academic community through collaborations, teaching, and program development. Her research group has been actively engaged in the response to COVID-19, working on initiatives related to expanding testing capacity, awareness campaigns, and the discovery of therapeutic solutions.
