The Indian culture sector and cultural festivals tend to have small teams, and have largely been working with freelancers, independent workers and consultants, who have sustained and shaped the sector in multiple ways. The mushrooming of the cultural festival sector in the recent past has generated further employment opportunities for gig workers in the creative sector.
With the onset of COVID-19, festivals have been cancelled, postponed or projects shelved; gig workers have emerged as one of the hardest hit communities. Without knowing when their next pay cheque will come by or if they would get another gig soon, this huge community of artists, curators, artist managers, production assistants, photographers, video assistants, designers are under immense stress.
This webinar will look at the impact of COVID-19 on the community and draw parallels as to how collectively we can paint a better future for gig workers.
Note: If you have already RSVP'd through our Google form to participate in the event, you do not need to register here. You will get a direct link to join the webinar on your email ID before 3:00 p.m, 29 May.

About Festival Connections:
British Council India’s Festival Connections series addresses India’s vibrant cultural festival sector. As a part of the organisation’s activities in the arts, the programme aims to support festival teams through upskilling workshops, peer sharing sessions, and opportunities to connect with the national network of Indian festival managers.
The Festival Connections Series is presented in association with Art X Company and Arts and Culture Resources India (ACRI). Arts and Culture Resources India (ACRI) a.k.a. Arts and Culture Opportunities, Residencies, Workshops, Jobs in India, is a space for knowledge exchange, information sharing, networking and learning for cultural and creative industry professionals in India. What started as a Facebook group with a long-winded name, for information sharing on professional and funding opportunities in the arts is developing into a comprehensive online resource for the cultural sector in India. ACRI Chapters in different cities provide an offline avenue for culture professionals to connect and upskill in the sector.
