Description

Gir national Park is the only and last remaining bastion of the Asiatic Lion. The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is also known as Sasan-Gir. Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary and a protected forest area for the Asiatic Lion in Gujarat, India. The Gir National Park is considered as one of the most important protected natural areas in Asia and is popular for particularly the pure Asiatic Lions (Panthera leo leo). Also, compared to other places, the Gir National Park even has the highest population of leopards in India and makes it the one of the best places to visit if you want to spot the Big Cats in India.

The Gir National Park is a home to other wild lives such as Chital (spotted dear), Nilgai (Blue Bull), Wild Boar, Sambar, Jackals, Hyenas, etc. Also, Gir National Park, has more than 300 different varieties of birds. You can trace about 38 species of mammals, around 37 species of reptiles & more than 2000 species of insects in the unique ecosystem of the Gir National Park. Located in the Sasan Gir in Gujarat, there is also a Gir Interpretation Zone. It is known as Devalia Safari Park, which is located 12 kilometres west of the village, at Devalia.

About the Place

Nestled in the southwest part of Gujarat state, 360 kilometres from Ahmedabad, 65 kilometres from Junagadh, and 40 kilometres from Veraval is the Gir National Park. The Gir National Park is located on an inland from the beaches of Diu. The entrance to the park is at Sasan Gir village, here is where the park reception and orientation centre is (next to the forest department's official Sinh Sadan guesthouse). Gir Forest National Park is the only such place in the world where rare lions have survived.

Going back in history, The Gir National Forest area was first protected by the Nawab of the princely state of Junagadh. This was during the 20th century where the Nawab of the princely state of Junagadh protected the Gir Forest area and the Asiatic lions. By taking this action, the population of the lions were saved from being extinct as a result of trophy hunting. Then finally years later in 1965 the Gir National Park was established. There is a beautiful dam named Kameshwar Dam in middle of the sanctuary and it is a home to many marsh crocodiles. This is a place which you must not miss.

Later in the year 2005, just ‘52’ Asiatic Lions were found in the wild. The fear of extinction raised again but then due to conversational efforts the population of the Asiatic Lions increased by time with more than 500 Asiatic Lions living at the The Gir Forest today. The Gir National Park trip would be a visit that will render wonderful sightings and give you thrills.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:

We reach Rajkot and then head towards the allocated rooms and check in. We freshen up and then we have quick introduction session. After the informational session we have a scrumptious lunch and then we gear up for the event you have been waiting for, that is the Jungle Safari. We return back after the thrilling experience in the evening and have our diner. Now it is time to relax near the camp fire and enjoy the South African Tribal Dance by the African tribes. You will be surprised to know that the generations of these African tribes have been residing in Sasan village since the past 300 years!

Day 2:

Wake up to a fresh morning! Today we leave for a thrilling open gypsy jungle safari at the Gir National Park at 06.00 am to 09.00 am. After the Safari we return back the resort and have some hot breakfast. We rest for some time and after lunch we visit the Somnath Temple. We return in the evening and then call it a day.

Day 3:

Good morning Trikoners! Today is the last day for the Safari so gear up with all the energy you have and make the most of this Safari today! We have some refreshing breakfast after coming back from the 3rd Jungle Safari. We head towards Rajkot Railway station where we will have lunch and then start our journey back home with a lot of memories.
