Should Art 2023

The word Boundary has always evoked powerful imagery and the associated emotions. Images of limits, of limitlessness. Of confinement, of boundlessness. Of exclusivity, of inclusivity. Of hate, of love.
Boundary is possibly the one thing that has defined us in ways that can be formidable or liberating, whether it is our gender, our caste, our religion, our country. It has torn us apart, yet, if we were to set ourselves free, it has the astonishing ability of drawing us close, with focus and intensity.
For us at G5A, it is the individual, the artist, and we, together as a community, that must make mindful choices, with no room for ambivalence. And create worlds that are fluid, molten, yet assimilated, integrated.
Especially today, when the world is so much closer with possibility, yet it is at its possible worst, in terms of fragmentation and difference - in thought, in voice, in action.
It is not one isolated moment, but a frightening compounding of multiple events in the past months that necessitated the focus on the idea of Boundary for Should Art 2023.
G5A has been built as a place that is expansive in its essence and demands the breaking free from shackles of every kind. So as to breathe fully, experience intimately, and evolve richly; sparking intense potentiality, fomenting powerful new work, and connecting deeply with one another.

December 01 to 17, 2023

Every year, G5A takes a pause to reflect and seed the threads for the year and season ahead.

Through a concentrated celebration of art and culture, artists and artisans, and our local neighborhood community, we recognize the collaborative spirit of art-making, as well as the importance of our individual, often isolated, artistic journeys.

Immersed in a three-week-long celebration, we present work that is multidisciplinary, experimental, and independent (through performances, conversations, readings, installations, public art, workshops, podcasts, bazaars, and food), visitors, participants, and artists will find wonder, joy, and hope. For the second week of the festival, we are joined by Musician, Activist, and G5A Advisory Council Member, T.M. Krishna, who takes on the role of Resident Curator.

This December, let’s come together to Connect. Create. Celebrate.
