The Open Music School has put together a 4-hour interactive hands-on workshop that will enable you to produce music in the comfort of your bedroom setups with just a mobile phone and a laptop/PC.

Course content -

+ Basics of the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)

+ Audio basics (signal flow, types of microphones and cables, common gear used in studios and their alternatives for a home studio setup)

+ Session prep

+ Recording acoustic guitar

+ Recording vocals with a mobile phone (guest singer - Richie Valsalan)

+ Dealing with acoustics and soundproofing (avoiding and cutting out noise, echoes and the harshness from the mobile recordings)

+ Programming keyboard using MIDI (guest keyboard player - Siddharth Nandakumar) and using libraries

+ Drum programming

+ Editing (cleaning up the session and making the project mix-ready)

+ Mixing and basic mastering (introduction to plug-ins like noise gate, EQ's, reverbs, delays and limiters)

+ Volume, tempo and time signature automation.

+ Listening devices and translation

+ Career as a home music producer

- The session will include a lot of group activities performed by the participants of the workshop (like learning and executing numerous ways to record vocals with mobile phones, learning acoustics and using your surroundings to your advantage, co-producing an entire song before the end of the session)

- No prerequisites or prior knowledge is required to attend the workshop.

- The participants may bring a laptop and/or a MIDI keyboard if they wish to. (it's not a necessity to have a MIDI keyboard as we will be teaching you how to program keyboard pieces on the laptop without a MIDI keyboard)
