Description
The Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, which is a yearly feature in the first week of December is a cultural extravaganza worth a watch. One can see a melange of Naga cultures on displayin one place. A tourist with a keen interest in people, their customs, food habits, sports, dances and songs, willbe more than satisfied. The festival is held at Naga heritage village, Kisama, which is about 12 kms from Kohima and is permanently created for celebration of this festival.
Highlights of the trip: Hornbill Tribal festival, Green village Khonoma, Village explorations, World War II Memorial Site, Safari in Kaziranga National Park.
Day 1 : Meet at Dimapur Station and Drive to First Green Village of Asia Khonoma
- 6th December
- We start our journey early in the day.
- Meet our team member at 6:30 am at the railway station. Roads from Dimapur to Khonoma are not very good so be prepared for a longer feeling 4-hour journey. Khonoma is the first green village in Asia which has banned cutting trees and hunting.
- After checking in the homestay, we go for a village tour knowing about the superstitions and traditions.
- Overnight stay at the village.
Day 2 : Drive to Village and Walking tour with Zero Mobile Network
- 7th December
- Today we start our day a little late.
- After breakfast at the homestay, we drive to the village with Zero mobile network. Explore the village, go for a short hike to the hidden waterfall, plucking some fresh vegetable and bring it back to the homestay for the evening meal.
- Campfire at the homestay. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 : Trek to Dzukou Valley
- 8th December
- Today post breakfast we trek to the Dzukou Valley. Just packing our basic essentials for a day we start for Vishwema village.
- The climb to the first view of Dzukou Valley is about 2 hrs of a gradual uphill hike. After that, another 30 mins of flat walk, walking in the valley.
- We stay at dome camps in Dzukou Valley.
- Dinner at the campsite.
Day 4 : Day at Hornbill Festival
- 9th December
- Go for an early morning around the magnificent Dzukou Valley. After having sandwiches for Breakfast we start out trek down to the bas village.
- Return to Homestay for Lunch. Post lunch we are free to visit the Hornbill festival venue.
- Return to homestay for Dinner. Overnight Stay.
Day 5 : Grand Closing Ceremony of Hornbill Festival
- 10th December
- After early breakfast, we go for a 2hr village tour.
- We finally reach the Hornbill festival venue and spend the complete day at the festival. Today is the best day to spend at Hornbill festival.
- Return to the homestay at your own pace.
- Dinner and Overnight stay at the property.
Day 6 : Departure from Dimapur
- 11th December
- Making our return journey, it'll be time to head back to our city lives.
- Due to limited connectivity, we only have 12:40 pm flight from Dimapur. So we start early from the homestay by around 6am.
- You can also take an overnight train from Dimapur to Guwahati.

Cancellation Policy
Booking amount is non-refundable.
No refund of total trip amount will be provided on cancellation, 10 days prior to departure date.
50% of total trip amount can be refunded on cancellation between 11-20 days prior to scheduled departure date.
90% of total trip amount can be refunded on cancellation between 21-90 days prior to scheduled departure date.
100% of total trip amount can be refunded on cancellation, 90+ days prior to scheduled departure date.
For Cancellations/ Refund Request , kindly reply to the confirmation mail and get in touch with the Team. All cancellations will be considered only after the mail has been received.
Things To Pack
Expected temperatures during our trip are expected to be around 8 to 25 degrees Celsius. You are advised to pack some winter clothes along. This is part adventure part leisure trip, so you can flaunt your best dresses but are also suggested to pack some loose comfortable wear while walking. You're quite safe in wearing the clothes of your liking in Nagaland.
We suggest you to also pack a pair of trekking or sports shoes (not new) for walking. While your trip leader is going to be carrying basic First Aid kit, you are advised to bring along the medicines that are prescribed to you. And lastly, do not forget to pack some snacks to share with the group, and the biggest of smiles!
Things To Know
Arrival: Fly to Guwahati on 5th December 2019 by any flight that reaches by 9 pm. Take overnight train to Dimapur from Guwahati ( 11:30 PM, Naganald Express 15603).
You can also fly directly to Dimapur on 6th December. Make sure you reach by 9 am.
Departure: You can fly out from Dimapur on 11th December 12:40 pm , which is a connecting flight via Kolkata. You can also take na overnight train to Guwahati and depart from Guwahati on 12th December,
