About the Event
Mumbai Light Festival is back with its third Satellite edition!
Titled IMMERSE, it will showcase two audiovisual acts that bring together diverse artists, genres and influences to craft uniquely immersive experiences.
The second act, titled Overture, a new and previously unseen audio-visual piece by visual artist Aniruddh Mehta (thebigfatminimalist) and creative technologist Aaron Pereira (Myles).
This 14-minute piece combines a sci-fi abstraction of flashing lights, geometric forms, organic topologies and textures which come together to create a dynamic and ever-evolving visual landscape. It is accompanied by a soundtrack that adds depth and emotional resonance to the visuals.
Whether experienced alone or with a group, viewers can look forward to being immersed in this compelling sonic and visual odyssey.
About the Artists:
Aniruddh Mehta is an Artist and a Designer based in Mumbai, India. His work ranges from traditional graphic design to digital and new media arts. His practice traverses through various mediums with a common theme rooted in precise organisation. He is the founder of Studio Bigfat - a multi-disciplinary design studio focusing on a broad spectrum of design areas such as Branding, Packaging, Brand Strategy, Graphic Design, Digital Illustration and Motion Design. The studio has worked with a long list of clientele which includes Facebook, Puma, Apple, Gates Foundation, LVMH, Subko Coffee, etc.
Aaron Myles Pereira provides custom software solutions ranging from interactive art installations to building devices that help musicians express themselves creatively. Growing up in India during a time when personal computers were making their way into homes, Pereira was intrigued by not only what they could do but also how they did it. This, coupled with a keen interest in music since the age of three, made music technology a field of interest for him. Aaron has worked with artists such as Suzanne Ciani in creating audio-reactive visuals for her tours and a custom-built hardware and software application for Zakir Hussain which allows him to control synthesizers and visuals with his tabla.
About Mumbai Light Festival (MLF) and MLF Satellite:
Mumbai Light Festival (MLF) has been envisioned as a one-of-its-kind celebration of lights that becomes a fixture in Mumbai’s cultural calendar. A platform for artists from India and abroad who are doing path breaking work with light as a medium, MLF’s goal is to establish itself as a public arts festival that is global in ambition, scale and execution. The first edition of MLF is scheduled for Q1 2023.
MLF Satellites are teaser events that are meant to provide a glimpse of that magical space that lies at the intersection of art and technology. Starting September 2022, MLF Satellite will be hosting standalone installations and experiences by artists who are pushing boundaries when it comes to light as a medium. The idea is to give people a taste of the possibilities of light as a medium for art and build excitement for the main event.
In September, the first edition of MLF Satellite featured ROW, an award-winning audio-visual installation by the celebrated new-media collective TUNDRA.
In October, the second edition of MLF Satellite featured TETRAPODS, a light installation made up of thirty tetrapod-like structures that light up to evoke various shapes, patterns and moods. Installed on Girgaon Chowpatty as a Diwali gift to the city of Mumbai, it was a collaboration between international and Indian artists.
