About

The second of The Quarter’s Artist In Residence series of shows will feature veteran Mumbai-based alternative rock band Indus Creed, made up of guitarist Mahesh Tinaikar, vocalist Uday Benegal, keyboardist Zubin Balaporia, drummer Jai Row Kavi and bassist Krishna Jhaveri. For their concert at the Royal Opera House, they will present a two-part set of tunes from their four albums –1988’s Rock and Roll Renegade, 1990’s The Second Coming (both of which were released under their earlier avatar Rock Machine), 1995’s Trapped and 2012’s Evolve – as well as a couple of unreleased tracks.

While the first half of the concert will have the band performing the power-charged rock repertoire for which they’re known and loved, the second half will see them collaborating with a Western classical string quartet, comprising musicians from around the globe: violinist Mika Nishimura from Japan, violinist Kushmita Biswakarma from India, viola player Kokila Gillett-Khan from the UK and cellist Magdalena Sas from Poland. Together, they will play the group’s hits such as ‘Pretty Child’, ‘Fireflies’ and ‘Dissolve’ in new arrangements composed by Balaporia. This special segment will also include a guest spot by renowned tabla player Fazal Qureshi whose virtuosic skills are heard on the studio version of ‘Pretty Child’.
