Introduction to Weaving – For Adults by Julie Kagti
A beginners workshop for young adults & upwards that teaches basic tapestry weaving methods, that are easy to learn and adapt. Julie Kagti uses her experience gained from working with various types of hand looms, to provide techniques and encourage learners to explore material, shapes and colours. She aims to encourage the participants to start their own explorations with weaving and imbibe a sense of appreciation for this ancient craft.
Julie learnt weaving at a young age watching her grandmother weave on a back strap loom that was commonly used in many households in The North East of India. She went on to do a diploma in textile design specializing in weaving. She has spent over two decades working in the textile industry. Currently she is working on creating a series of tapestries. She had a showing of her collection- "Rock, Paper, Scissor " a handmade paper weaving project at Amethyst in October 2015
