VIVO IPL 2020 - Season Overview
Delhi, who were the runners-up in IPL 2020, chose to retain 19 players in their squad for IPL 2021. Delhi failed to defeat Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 final. However, their performance was among the best ones in the IPL tournaments so far. Along with skipper Shreyas Iyer, the franchise retained Ajinkya Rahane, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Prithvi Shaw, R Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Lalit Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Daniel Sams, Pravin Dubey and Chris Woakes.
VIVO IPL 2020 - Auction Overview
Retaining some of their players, the Delhi Capitals traded their former player and the go-to opening batsman for India - Shikhar Dhawan from the Sunrisers Hyderabad. This came by trading off their all-rounder Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma and spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. Players from Delhi Capitals that the franchise has retained for the 13th IPL season are: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Keemo Paul, and Sandeep Lamichhane. We also saw the return of the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly as the official advisor for Delhi Capitals.
IPL 2019 - Season Overview
After facing a tough battle in 2018 the Delhi Capitals returned to VIVO IPL 2019 with a new look and what a comeback from the Delhi team. Despite finishing at the bottom of the table, the Delhi Capitals (then DD) turned the tides in the new season as they reached 3rd on the table (just behind Chennai Super Kings) by the end of the league. Having seen that mind-blowing comeback, we’re pretty sure that in this season we’re only going to see a better and stronger game from the Delhi Capitals. We’ve seen players like Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant hold fort at the toughest times, while the young captain, Shreyas Iyer will be seen setting new ground for this season. Veteran Amit Mishra’s ace bowling had fans hoping for the game-changing moment at every match in the previous season, and the trust strengthens in the coming one. Young stars like Lamichhane and Avesh Khan made their mark as well and will play a more influential role going forward. A combination of youth and experience is what makes this DC side unpredictable and one to look out for next season.
Looking back at their performance in 2019 - The Capitals kicked off the league with a 37 run victory over Mumbai Indians who’ve been 3-time champions at the Indian Premier League. Then came the big moment that all DC fans had been waiting for - we saw the Delhi Capitals enter the playoffs after 7 years of going at it non-stop. The fans jumped with excitement following an easy two-wicket victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, somewhere falling a little short on pitch Delhi Capitals lost their second game against Chennai Super Kings as CSK won by six wickets. It was still one of the best comebacks we’ve witnessed in Indian Premier League as Delhi Capitals landed third on the table, and as second runners up at the playoffs.
