About the Event
The Jaipur Music Stage: Variety, Discovery and Collaboration
Rooted in the heart of India but flavoured with offerings from across the globe, the Jaipur Music Stage features a variety of artistes from the across the world. Be it world music, ghazals, jazz, rock or the blues, the Jaipur Music Stage 2020 is a music festival like no other, embodying variety, excellence and collaboration. The Stage, running parallel to the Jaipur Literature Festival, will present breathtaking evenings of performances featuring a variety of artistes from the international spectrum with a multi-genre abundance in style, sound, and history.
The Jaipur Music Stage is more than just a place for literature-enthusiasts to unwind after an exhilarating day of talks: it is a musical confluence opening audiences up to new sounds.
A night market with a range of merchandise including instruments, music technology, music from indie music labels and other paraphernalia, will add sizzle to this unique medley of the popular and the subtle.

The Rajasthan Josh Qawwali Experience | 7 - 8:15 PM
Chugge Khan and Rajasthan Josh are a world music band featuring Chugge, Khete and Salim Khan. They are traditional folk musicians who are renowned for their passionate and energetic performances featuring a repertoire of folk and Manganiyar songs, Sufi poems and songs by Kabir, Baba Bulleh Shah, Baba Farid, Shah Latif and Qawwali, as well as Hindu bhajans and Punjabi songs. Chugge Khan and Rajasthan Josh have collaborated with a range of global artists and performed across the world. Chugge is also a member of the international collective Junun & Rajasthan Express, headed by Shye Ben Tzur from Israel and Jonny Greenwood from British supergroup Radiohead along with other vocalists and instrumentalists from Rajasthan. At the Jaipur Music Stage, Rajasthan Josh will collaborate with famous Ajmeri Qawwali singers, Zakir and Zaki Khan.
Ricky Kej | 8:30 - 9:45 PM
World Music
Ricky Kej is an internationally renowned Grammy Award-winning Indian music composer, environmentalist and professor. He has dedicated his life and music towards creating awareness on the environment and positive social impact. He has performed at prestigious venues in over 30 countries, including at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and Geneva. He composed and produced his album Shanti Samsara, which was launched at the United Nations COP21 Climate Change Conference in Paris. For the album, Kej collaborated with over 500 musicians from over 40 countries. His past repertoire of work spans 16 studio albums, over 3500 commercials and four feature films, including the natural history documentary Wild Karnataka narrated by Sir David Attenborough. He also scored music for the opening ceremony of the Cricket World Cup 2011 in Bangladesh. In addition to winning more than 100 music awards, he has been awarded the United Nations Global Humanitarian Artist and Youth Icon of India.

Spoken Word Jazz & Neo Soul
From homebase on the coast of Italy’s beautiful Lake Garda, Lisa Simmons leads the spoken word jazz ensemble NoteSpeak with keyboardist, arranger and songwriter Marco Cremaschini. NoteSpeak explores creative paths established by such artists as The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron, and Brian Jackson, constantly shifting from style to style yet keeping a consistent, deep groove. Simmons' delivery connects Nina Simone to Jill Scott, obliterating the line between vocalist and poetess. “I love the exploration of the spoken, sung and played mingled,” Simmons explains. “In NoteSpeak, we’re giving ourselves the freedom to just tell these stories with as much craft and beauty and compassion as we can muster.”
Gavin James | 8:30 – 9:45 PM
Singer-Songwriter
Gavin James is a Dublin-based singer songwriter. He released his debut album Bitter Pill in 2015 and has gone on to sell out a world tour as well as supporting Naill Horan, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith along the way. His total streams are rapidly heading toward the two billion mark, making him one of the most successful streamed acts in the world. His breakout hit single Nervous has gone multi-platinum in several international markets. He was a spotify spotlight artist in 2016 and released his sophomore album Only Ticket Home in 2018. He is currently writing for his new record due for release in 2020.

Aabha Hanjura feat. Kashmiri Folk Ensemble | 7 – 8:15 PM
Eclectic Folk Pop
Aabha Hanjura is a popular folk fusion artist and front woman of the eclectic folk-pop band Sufistication. A vivacious live performer, she stormed through the charts with her Kashmiri folk pop number Hukus Bukus. The track garnered over 3.2 million views and made its way into the popular web series The Family Man, starring Manoj Bajpayee, and the critically acclaimed film No Fathers In Kashmir, directed by Oscar-nominated director Ashvin Kumar. Her music is known to bridge the gap between traditional and modern sounds and has won her the H.E.R Award, the Times Power Woman 2019 for Excellence In Music and Best Folk Artist Award at the Hungama Artist Aloud Awards in 2018. The band will feature an ensemble folk musicians from kashmir & present a fusion of Kashmiri music blended with modern contemporary sounds.
Parvaaz | 8:30 – 9:45 PM
Progressive – Rock
Parvaaz is a contemporary Indian music band whose sound can best be described as a blend of prog/ psychedelic rock with elements of folk and world music. They were on the cover of Rolling Stone India’s May 2018 issue with the magazine calling them ‘India’s Most Exciting Band’. The band has won the 2015 Toto Music Award and the Judges Choice for Best Rock Artist at the 2017 Radio City Freedom Awards. Parvaaz are known for their energetic live gigs and a unique sound that transcends musical genres. They released their critically acclaimed debut full-length album Baran in 2014. Their second album, Kun, was released in October 2019.
