Day 1
Reach Jaisalmer and get picked up from the airport. Reach the hotel and check in. The place of stay was a haveli once upon a time. In the evening, go for a boat ride on Gadisar Lake. The bank of the lake is made of intricately carved chattris, temples, shrines and of course, the ghats. Since it is a major source of water in the region and due to its proximity to Bharatpur, you might be able to spot some migratory birds as well.
Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 2
After breakfast, head to Longewala, the battleground for the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak War. It’s a two-hour drive and will introduce you to the Thar Desert. Also visit the War Museum, and Tanot Mata Temple, which was targeted by the Pakistani Army during 1971 War. For all the movie buffs, Longewala also featured in JP Dutta’s Border.
Since Longewala is on the border, if the Indo-Pak relations get tensed during the visit, then the site will be closed for tourists.
Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 3
The magnificent Jaisalmer Fort is on the list today. Be ready to be floored by architecture that’s intricate, detailed and opulent. You will also go to Patwon ki Haveli. It is one of the largest havelis in Rajasthan and is famous for its miniature balconies. Apart from the gateways and arches, also look out for paintings and mirror-work on the walls.
The carvings on the exterior of Nathmal ki Haveli depicts master craftsmanship, so keep your cameras focused when you go there. Salim ki Haveli is unique in its shape and is another must-visit on the list.
Go for a camel safari in the evening over sand dunes. Be ready for a bumpy ride and sand in your hair. Interested patrons can indulge in jeep safari too (at their own expense).
Stay in tents tonight. The evening will be around bonfire with cultural programmes and folk dances. New Year Party will follow with the DJ playing music late in the night. Bid adieu to 2018. Overnight stay in luxury tents.
Day 4
After breakfast, check out from your tents and get dropped to Jaisalmer Airport.
