Artist
He sings, he dances, and when neither are enough, he tells jokes. One of the most recognized faces of Indian comedy, Abish Mathew was one of the first Indian Youtube stars, who has over 30 million views on his channel. These videos include sketches, stand-up, and of course, his hit talk-show, Son of Abish, which has featured stars like AIB, Vishal Dadlani, Kanan Gill, Badshah, Taapsee Pannu, Cyrus Broacha, and Vir Das. Son of Abish is now into its third season and brings with it something different each time! The stand-up comedian has performed 1000+ shows across India and the world, including New York, Canada and the prestigious Utrecht International Comedy Festival (Holland). Abish has created content for brands like Breezer Vivid and Netflix, and his brand of clean humor has won over crowds in clubs, colleges and corporates alike. He made his Bollywood debut in the film Meri Pyaari Bindu in 2017. Presently, Abish is touring the country with the comedy show LOLStar. Furthermore, he also featured on a stand up showcase called Special Showcase with fellow comedian Zakir Khan. At the same time, he is also part of a panel of judges in Comicstaan, a nine-episode series, to mentor and find India’s next comic sensation!
One of the most instantly identifiable comedians in the country, Tanmay is the co-founder of edgy comedy collective AIB. He has written, directed and acted in several of their best comedy videos and projects, such as AIB Knockout (India’s first ever comedy roast), AIB Diwas (a full-day open-air comedy show), On Air with AIB (the satirical news show telecast on primetime television and Hotstar), and AIB Presents Royal Turds (a Bollywood-themed spoof award show). He has performed all over India, Dubai, The Comedy Store in London, the world’s largest arts festival (Edinburgh Fringe) in Scotland and Singapore. He’s also written for the Filmfare Awards, and moonlights as a humour columnist with Firstpost and Time Out Mumbai. His television credits include India’s first English sketch comedy special Ripping The Decade on Star World. Excitingly, for fans, he has recently got back on the stand-up stage and is trying out new material, building towards a special in 2018.
A journalist by qualification, Gaurav Kapoor is another by-product of the famous Bollywood Kapoor family. Just kidding. The comedian is a sweet Delhi boy who does what he is expected to – hold a respectable job (he has one in retail) and make people laugh when needed (his secret profession). His razor sharp wit and candid humor lead him to win almost every open-mic he has ever participated in (yes, he is that good), including the Big Mic, Canvas Laugh Club, Chalta Hai and Buzz Off. So good that he opened for the world famous comic Russell Brand on his Indian tour. His favorite topics to talk about on stage are Jaat culture, people who buy Royal Enfields and poverty (mostly his own), a variety that makes the Indian audiences fall in love with him. And with his recent spelling change (Kapur to Kapoor), he has got all the validation he needs, and is ready to take over the world.
Zakir Khan is one of the the brightest comedians in the country, as proven by the massive success of his recent Haq Se Single tour, and the Amazon Prime special of the same name. Zakir created waves in 2016 with his appearance on AIB Diwas, as he swiftly went on to become what AIB founder Tanmay Bhat described as “The biggest stand-up comedy act in India. Period”. A writer by profession, this 'Confused Desi' serves his take on modern India, with a hard-to-resist style of humour that'll have you nodding your heads and clapping as you relate to everything he says. His work includes comedy specials like Kaksha Gyarvi; an acclaimed Amazon Prime series, Chacha Vidhayak Hai Hamare and a podcast, ‘Umeed’. Zakir is indeed a unique act, and it's easy to see why.
Kumar Varun is a member of Random Chikibum, a comedy collective with fellow comedian Rahul Subramanian. Self-described as "a group of over-enthusiastic, furniture-loving, animal-agnostic, clingy individuals on a mission to make no sense", they won the Comedy Hunt on YouTube in 2015, and have a popular office-humour series, Random Daftar, as part of Laughter Games on YouTube. Kumar is a popular feature of several AIB sketches, and has recently forayed into stand-up comedy.
One of India’s favourite comedy rappers, Baba Sehgal is the self-proclaimed first professional Hindi rapper in the world. He's most popular for his classic 90’s pop hits like 'Thanda Thanda Pani' and 'Dil Dhadke', and his latest YouTube sensations like 'Going to the gym' and 'Chicken Fried Rice'. His single is a short cover of Justin Bieber, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee's chartbuster 'Despacito'. What's different about the cover is that it is in Hindi, and Baba in his signature style, has written the wackiest lyrics!
