Kaavad Katha - Maya, is a modern-day reworking of the ancient storytelling form of Kaavad Katha from Rajasthan. Kaavad Katha was practiced by the travelling bards of ancient Rajasthan as an art form where they performed stories around the epics, folktales and family trees of local patrons.
The storytelling was accompanied by a hand painted wooden box (the Kaavad) with multiple doors and numerous characters, each of whom could be adapted to the particular story being performed.
As a humble attempt to revive this dying artform, this contemporary version has been created by Akhshay Gandhi, around stories written by him in the ancient format of KathaSaritaSagara. The artwork on the Kaavad has been done by Rohit Bhasi, a Bangalore based Illustrator. These tales cover subjects both ancient and contemporary, with a great deal of humor and insight thrown in.
So, come gather around with your dear ones and experience this rare storytelling event in the comfort of your home. Watch it on your mobile phones, laptop or stream it on the television screen.
