About the Event

Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum presents in collaboration with Ekibeki - Kalaangan.


This summer, join us at the BDL Museum Plaza for a special festival showcasing and supporting Indian artisans!


Representing over 40 traditional and contemporary styles of craftsmanship and design from across the country, the festival will feature a diverse array of handmade products including textiles, accessories, jewellery, and home decor for sale.

  • Pattachitra Painting Workshop by Rupsona Chitrakar 

Friday, 10th May 2024 | 11 am  - 12:30 pm


Pattachitra, a cloth-based scroll painting, is one of the oldest and most popular art forms of West Bengal and Odisha. Dive into its intricate details and captivating mythological narratives alongside renowned artist Ruksona Chitrakar. Join us for a workshop with artisan Rupsona Chitrakar, where you'll not only learn the techniques but also immerse yourself in the rich stories that have been passed down through the ages.



  • Sholapith Flower Workshop by Gobindo Halder

10th and 11th May 2024 | 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm


Discover the magic of Sholapith, also known as Indian cork, a fascinating material with endless possibilities for crafting. Imagine a dried, milky-white sponge that can be molded into various shapes and forms. In this beginner workshop join us with Gobindo Halder, a master artisan from the village of Gangasagar near Kolkata. With over a decade of experience, Gobindo will guide to craft some delicate Sholapith flowers.



  • Gond Painting Workshop by Sukhiram Maravi

Gond art is a famous folk art that originates from the Gond tribal communities of central India, primarily in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This art form is characterized by its vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and depiction of flora, fauna, and mythological narratives. In Gond art, motifs often depict animals, birds, trees, and deities, intricately interconnected in a fluid and rhythmic manner. Each motif holds symbolic importance, reflecting the community's profound bond with nature and their belief in the interconnectedness of all life forms. Join the renowned master artisan Sukhiram Maravi to learn about the art and make your own own Gond art.

The workshop begins with an introductory session of pottery and ceramics. It gives a brief idea of how clay reacts to the techniques and processes used in the workshop.It also touches upon the topics like perceived value of ceramic, how pottery changes when the different glazes, treatments and technique are applied.  - can you share a bit more details on the art form and about who will be conducting the workshop.



  • Mandana Painting by Vidya Devi Soni

Join us for a workshop led by artisan Vidya Devi Soni, a skilled Mandana folk artist hailing from Bhilwara. Mandana in the local language refers to ‘drawing’ in the context of Chitra Mandana or ‘drawing a picture’. Mandana is derived from the word Mandan which implies decoration and beautification. Historically, they have been practiced for centuries on walls and floors by women as decorations for special or festive occasions. Vidya Devi Soni, honored with the National Merit Award in 2017, will guide us through this culturally rich art form, exploring its significance and techniques.



  • Sohrai Painting Workshop by Manikchand Mahto

Sohrai Painting is a folk painting tradition that is mostly practised in the villages of Jharkhand's Hazaribagh area. It was traditionally done to decorate the hut walls during the harvest festivals using limited number of natural pigments. Join us with artist Manikchand Mahto and learn different motifs the techniques used in the Sohrai paintings.


  • Sanjhi Painting Workshop by Ashutosh Verma

Sanjhi art is a craft form that predates what we know as embossing on paper. It features intricate picture motifs, and exquisite designs which are cut into paper. This art form originated in Mathura and Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. Join us with the sixth-generation artist Ashutosh Verma from Mathura and make your own Sanjhi Painting!
