About the Event
One of the most ancient arts in INDIA originated about 3000 years ago is KALAMKARI.
The word kalamkari is derived from the words kalam and Kari. Kalam means pen with which the drawings are drawn, and Kari means craftsmanship.
The kalamkari artists make use of special pens which are particularly crafted for this purpose from the bamboo tree.
Paintings created with the help of free-flowing pen, Srikalahasti Kalamkari is a distinctive art in India. This art is a twelve step process done on cotton or silk fabric using natural dyes. From the first representation of Kalamkari art as religious painting, depicting India gods and goddesses to the process of gaining recognition till today, this art has come a long way.
