Intinerary
Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri
Altitude: 6,455 ft.
Distance: 197 km (drive)
Time Taken: 8-10 hrs
The vehicles start at 06:30 am from the parking of Dehradun railway station. Kedarkantha Trek in Uttarakhand, the journey starts from Dehradun early in the morning for Sankri. The beautiful village of Sankri is about 200 km from Dehradun in the Uttarkashi District. The place sits at an altitude of 1950 meters above the sea level, in the lap of scenic misty mountains. Sankari is the last village which has a motorable road, it’s all about a peaceful escape surrounded by Naugaon, Rohru, Purola and Chauhara Block. From Sankari, you get a sensational view of swargarohini the beautiful Himalayan peak. Reach, relax and acclimatize.
Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talaab
Altitude: 9100 ft.
Distance: 4 km
Time Taken: 5 hours
Difficulty: Easy
The trek start from Sankari on some healthy breakfast, have some tea. Sankri is a small hamlet located in Uttarakashi District of Uttarakhand, India Sankri offers you a view of many snow covered peaks including that of Swargarohini, Ranglana, Banderponch and Kalanag. It’s pretty famous with old style and classic wooden houses that make you travel back in time and a perfect place to start for winter treks. The trail is generrally through the dense forest of oaks and you will also encounter the rare sight of maple forests. They are found only in these regions in India. Fauna includes boars, martens, languor and hares. After crossing few streams the trail continue through the dense forest oaks one can reach Juda Ka Talaab, the first campsite of Kedarkantha Trek in Uttarakhand. Stay the night in the tents at Juda ka Talaab.
Day 3: Juda Ka Talaab to Kedarkantha Trek Base Camp
Altitude: 11,250 ft.
Distance: 4 km
Time Taken: 2.5 hrs
Difficulty: Easy
Wake up to the amazing sight of the frozen lake only to find it between the snow covered trees and surrounded by the mountains. It feels as if you are into some set from the Harry potter fiction movie just to experience the magic of this beautiful nature. Juda ka Talab, the first campsite of the Kedarkantha Trek in Uttarakhand. This campsite has a picturesque lake, looks absolutely divine and turns frozen during winters. Its time trekkers start looking at Himalaya trekking seriously as one of the perfect attractions for winter trekking. Campsite is surrounded by the dense pine and oak forest. It is elevated at a height of 9000 feet above sea level and located in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhashi District, Uttarakhand. Walk over ridges today that shall give into brilliant meadows. The walk shows the stunning peaks such as Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Nag and Ranglana among countless others. Reach the camp site at the Kedarkantha Base Camp and soak in the view of the entire range at a sight.
Day 4: Kedarkantha Trek base to Kedarkantha peak; descend to Hargaon camp
Altitude: 11,250 feet to 12,500 feet to 8,900 feet.
Distance: 6 kms trek
Time taken: approx 7 hours.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate The D day is here. Head out early in the moring around 3 am, get your head lamps ready and conquer the mountain. We see the sun rising from behind those icy mountains turing the entire ranges into a shade of orange like a burning lava. It is a treat to the eyes where one forgets everything and just enjoys the beauty that nature has to provide. On the way Kedarkantha Peak Summit Each of the campsite is known for its natural beauty all around. The trail offers shepherd huts, beautiful white snow covered ground and the view of the whole trail of the summit point. You can also enjoy the beauty of the meadows all around at the same time. Another popular option for trekkers is the snow camping with a clear view of the night sky. This area is home to a number of birch species and animals. Kedarkantha peak Summited At an altitude of 10,400 feet, you can enjoy the enthralling views of the snow peaked mountains of Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Swargarohini, Ranglana. Spend some time at the Kedarkantha Peak summit. Some of the top attractions one can see from the top include the Sankari, Judha ka Talab, Kedarkantha Base and Kedarkantha Peak. At an elevation of 12500 feet, Kedarkantha Trek in Uttarakhand offers the spectacular view of the Black peak, Swargarohini, Harkidun valley, Bandarpoonch, Dhauladhar range of Himanchal and the villages of this area and descend back to the base camp by noon for lunch. We descend down to Hargaon after lunch. Reach Hargaon by the evening. We spend the night in tents.
Day 5: Hargaon camp to Sankri
Altitude: 8,900 feet to 6,400 feet.
Distance: 6 kms trek
Time taken: Approx 4 hours.
Difficulty: Easy. Descend 2500 feet through dense pine forests.
Jump into the snow, play, jump, and dance and just enjoy youself to the moment as the summit is done. The trek for the day start towards Sankri. Trail through the various beautiful campsites which will be a memorable journey of your life. Kedarkantha Trek in Uttarakhand is one of the best winter treks available for the trekkers who want to enjoy the winter trekking and snowy experience. Overnight stay in Sankri.
Day 6: Departure day, Sankri to Dehradun. Distance: 197 kms (drive) Time Taken: 8-10 hrs You will be dropped at Dehradun station in a Ford Trax, Chevrolet Tavera, Tata Sumo or a similar vehicle (Transportion Cost Not Included). Tada!
