About the tournament


India's first international football pre-season tournament, Toyota Yaris LaLiga World, will be held in Kochi, starting 24th July. The tournament includes Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters FC, A-League's Melbourne City FC and Spain LaLiga's Girona FC. The teams lock horns in a three-way tournament, playing across 5 days at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi.

In August 2017, City Football Group, together with Girona Football Group, acquired the Spanish football club Girona FC in an equal partnership deal (44.3% by each party). In its first season in the highest category, Girona FC defeated Real Madrid, the current Champions League winner, at the Montilivi stadium. The team finished the season in the 10th position, fighting until the end to reach European positions and becoming one of the best beginner in LaLiga’s history.
