About KNMA
Established at the initiative of avid art collector Kiran Nadar in 2010, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art popularly known as KNMA, is a private museum exhibiting modern and contemporary artworks from the Indian sub-continent and increasingly from around the world. With two museums, one in Saket and the other in Noida, KNMA has housed many critically acclaimed exhibitions. Kiran Nadar’s contributions have earned her prestigious awards like the Padma Shri and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, alongside global recognition as an influential figure in contemporary art.
In a few years, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art will find a new home in a 1.2 million square foot building near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. With multiple exhibition spaces,
auditoriums, open patios, an archive centre, library, restaurants, members room and more, the new museum will diversify KNMA into a cultural centre that promotes both visual and performing arts.
“What are the provocations and ambiguities of contemporaneity that drive this festival?
For one, it is to answer the call of vulnerability and to create platforms for voices, ideas, forms and people who are not always visible in the nation’s gaze. Those that provoke us to think and set in motion the dominoes of our interrelatedness. The curation is cognizant of trends pan-nationally; of the shift to co-authorship, of ‘non-actors’ finding space in performance, of personal expression, of an increase in plays that are scaled down, feasible and mobile, of the lens of contemporaneity being cast even on traditional and folk forms.“
- Kirtana Kumar, Guest Curator

About the Theatre Festival
Through the curatorial lens of Bengaluru based theatre maker Kirtana Kumar, the KNMA has invited productions that both represent and exemplify the thriving scene of contemporary theatre and new explorations in performance creation. The choice of curating a theatre festival that is centred around a theme - The Power of Vulnerability - has been a deliberate one, informed by the need to probe what contemporary theatre means, as well as the role we imagine theatre playing in the context of important current vulnerabilities. Class, religion, location, gender, sexuality, and the complex ways in which they overlap form the core of all the plays in the festival. In addition, a workshop, a lecture demonstration and a symposium have been organised to create a charged space of discussion between performance theorists, students and practitioners, with their various perspectives on contemporary theatre.
