Stand-up Comedy Open Mic
Born and raised in suburban Mumbai, Navin Noronha was touted as the ideal kid. But everything went sideways, or so his mom believes when he got into comedy after tanking miserably for six months. Since then, he has been owning up to his identity as an Indian queer male to construct two shows called 'Homo's Odyssey' alongside comedian Nick Pillow and 'The Good Child', his solo stand-up show.
Along with stand-up, Navin also does improv, writes for major publications and hosts his own podcast, Keeping it Queer, which focuses on lives of the Indian LGBTQIA population. He was on TV in 2017 as a part of Queens of Comedy on TLC and NBA Hangout on Sony Six.
Reporter, sleuth and soothsayer Reza Noorani is the pinch-hitter of comedy, remembered for his big hits but never landing brand endorsements. Which is okay as he lives life on the edge, both on and off stage. His stand-up covers sex, politics and recreation (for lack of a better euphemism) and has seen him win Chalta Hai Comedy Open Mics for a record three times. Understandably; in increasingly stuck-up times, he doesn't land many gigs but the man speaketh the truth and the truth is always bitter and often hilarious.
Photographer by day, filmmaker by night and stand-up comedian by midnight, Prasad Mathkar has travelled to remotest places like Skagway, Ketchikan and Juenau in Alaska and also to the southern hemisphere to New Zealand in search of the one thing he seeks for the last decade or more; cold weather and few people. Having clearly failed in his mission now he has what you might call a love-hate relationship (more hate than love) with, well everything. When most flag bearers aren’t listening, he talks about the film industry and politics. At other times, he’s usually behind a camera, waiting to catch someone on a hungerstrike eating on the sly so he can cash in his chips and retire to… well, he won’t say where.
Aditya Singh
Aditya Singh is a 20 year old comedian who stays in Cotton Green and thinks that he's from South Bombay. His set covers a wide range of topics, right from having a troubled childhood to the daily struggles of life. He has always been a cry baby and loves to whine about stuff, only difference now he does it on stage.
Siddhartha Shetty
He has been doing stand up comedy for a year now , performed at various venues across Mumbai including the Canvas laugh Club , Sales person by the day and Comedian by the night he derives his inspiration from the experiences he has in his work travel
A.: “Stand-up comedy” is usually a one person performance where the performer through the recitation of jokes, one-liners, puns or couplets attempts to create humour and elicit laughter from the audience.
A single performance may comprise of one or more "sets" which the "comedian" or "comic" delivers within a pre-determined time frame. Sets may contain humorous material belonging to various genres including but not limited to Irony, Satire, Slapstick, etc. Some comedians may be satirical and/or critical of the issues and topics they evoke, while others may engage in "Dark" humour. Neither "Finding Funny" nor "Workbay" claim any ownership or bias towards any material in general or any topic, issue, or comic in particular.”
Q.: What is an Open mic?
A.: An open mic is a performance where new performers can get a chance to take the stage and face an audience. Experienced performers attend stand-up comedy open mics to test and perform new jokes for the first time, or to fine-tune comparatively newer material in anticipation of a longer performance.
Q.: Will there only be new or relatively inexperienced performers on the line-up?
A.: No. The evening will invariably feature performances by a few experienced performers. That being said, the audience is encouraged to be supportive of the newer performers as they count on the audience to hone their craft and get better at it with each performance. Remember, even the most popular and loved Stand-up Comedian in the world today started off as a new and green act at an open mic, just like this one.
