Urdu is one of the most beautiful, polite and loved language. It is popularly known as the language of love. And when we talk about Urdu Adab i.e. Urdu Literature, the first word which comes into our mind is - Ghazal

Ghazal is one of the most celebrated, heart-warming and elegant form of poetry. It not only depicts the beauty of human romance but also translates the most revolutionary thoughts and emotions into words. It appeals to everyone, but it is mostly adored and appreciated by the youth. Today when almost every budding poet is influenced and inspired by the charm of Urdu Ghazal, It becomes important that they also learn and understand the technicalities behind it.

After an overwhelming response to our first Ghazal writing workshop "Mulaqat", We bring to you -

"Mulaqat, phir se: Urdu Ghazal ki Shuruaati Class"

Who is this workshop for?

Sher o Shayari ke deewanon aur Ghazal ke Chahne waalon ke liye hai ye workshop. This workshop is for budding poets, writers, performing artists, Urdu-Hindi Literature enthusiasts and for everyone who in anyway loves the art form of Ghazal and Sher o Shayari. "When you love an art form, you try to learn it." said Gulzar, and thus this workshop will be an amazing and informative 2 day learning experience for all those who love Urdu Ghazal, who sit in the evenings and listen to Rahat Indori, Waseem Barelvi, Nida Fazli, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Tehzeeb hafi, Ali zaryoun, Mohammed Alvi, Shameem Abbas etc.

In this interactive, enlightening and engaging two days workshop of Urdu Ghazal you will learn - Who are some of the beginners in this field of poetry, A brief history of Urdu Ghazal, What is Radeef, Qafiya and Harf e rabi, How to write in meter etc. This two days workshop will be Followed by a contest where every student will be asked to send an original Ghazal written by them to Team Kommune. Shortlisted candidates will earn a special session with the conductor of Mulaqat, Swapnil Tiwari, and will get personal feedback and tips on their writing.

Day 1 – 28th August - 4 to 6PM

1) Brief history and birth of Ghazal. 

2) Brief note on some beginners such as Amir khusro, Meer, Ghalib etc.

3) Technical terms/basic terminologies in Ghazal and their usage - Radeef, Qafiya, Matla, Maqta, Harf e rabi, Takhallus, Misra, Misra e ula, Misra e saani, Ghazal go, Ghazal goi etc.

4) Types of Ghazal

5) Discussions on Minimum and Maximum number of couplets in a Ghazal.

Day 2 – 29th August - 4 to 6PM

1) Understanding Beher/Meter.

2) Why is it important to write in meter.

3) Basic rules behind checking Meter of a Ghazal.

4) Some hacks of writing a Ghazal and bringing newness in couplets.

5) Types of Urdu poetry

Day 3 - 4th September - One on One session with Swapnil Tiwari - 4 to 6PM

Selected students from the contest will participate in this special session. In the contest every student will be asked to send an original Ghazal written by them to Team Kommune. Shortlisted candidates will earn a special session with conductor of Mulaqat, Swapnil tiwari, and will get personal feedback and tips on their writing.

About the Conductor - 

Swapnil Tiwari - Currently working as a script writer and lyricist in Hindi film industry, Swapnil Tiwari has written a few short films, a feature film and some songs for feature films and web series like “Yeh meri family” and “Sonu ke titu ki sweety”. Two collections of his ghazals are published. First collection 'Chaand Dinner par baitha hai' was published in 2016 and it was in both persian and devnagri script. The second collection 'Zindagi ik udaas ladki hai' was published last year in december. A horror novel by Swapnil is soon to be published.
