Course Description:

The Kuchipudi workshop is the perfect choice to expose your child to our very own local culture through the experiential medium of dance. Kuchipudi is one of the most recognized classical dance forms, practiced mainly by the Telugu-speaking people of southern India. Primarily, a dance-drama format, it later gained popularity as the solo form we predominantly see today, drawing elements from Veedhi natakam-Street play, Kalapas, Yakshaganam, temple and court dances of yore. Once performed by all-male artists of the Brahman community frm the Kuchipudi village that it hails from, it is practiced now by all classes and no longer gender-specific. Agility, dramatization, and grace are some hallmarks of this particular dance style, making it unique and appealing.

• Basic adavus (fundamentals)


• Basic mudras (hand gestures)


• Light exercises to increase flexibility


• Head and eye movements


• One song per session will be completed
