About the Workshop:

Learning how to paint with oils might seem daunting at first but it is one of the best art mediums to learn and experiment with. They are very versatile, allowing artists to use a wide range of painting techniques. Oils give a rich depth to paintings that is not achieved with any other medium. Many famous paintings like DaVinci’s Mona Lisa, Vincent van Gogh’sStarry Night, and Sandro Botticelli’sThe Birth Of Venusare oil paintings!

What will you learn in the workshop?

With this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to paint a landscape using oil paints.

We’ll begin with an introduction to the medium - what exactlyare oil paints and how can you get started with them, some basic and intermediate tips and techniques of oil painting, and a few painting exercises, such as painting mountains and grass, to help you get a better hold of the medium. With step-by-step guidance throughout the workshop, you’ll soon have created a complete oil painting landscape!

Flow of the session:

• Introduction to oil painting and common materials used
• Learning gradient formations using colours
• Painting techniques with oils that demonstrate how to paint elements such as grass, mountains, etc.
• Beginning the landscape painting of the day
• Painting along and completion of the landscape in 1.5 hours with step-by-step instructions

Materials required: 

• Artist-grade oil paints of any brand
• Brustro oil paper sheets cut into two (or) A4 Canvas pad sheets cut into two
• Synthetic hair small to medium size flat brushes
• Linseed Oil
• Turpentine
• Palette or disposable plate to mix colours
• Cloth for wiping brushes

About the artist: Subhashree Sridhar 

Subhashree Sridhar is a Chennai-based artist who specialises in oil painting. She has been learning art since the age of five! For the past few years, she has been fascinated with the medium of oils. Although she loves to explore the themes of temples and streetscapes in oils, she also likes to dabble with still life and human anatomy occasionally.
