Lec - Demo: Daksha Mashruwala on Gita Govinda in Dance & Art
Gita Govinda, the 12th century epic written by the Saint poet Jayadeva influenced all art forms like the painting, music, & dance. Poets like Jayadeva grasped the physical as the concrete form of the spiritual. The ambiguity of the sacred & the profane dimensions of love are well accepted and the love songs of Radha and Krishna in Jayadeva's Gita Govinda speak of both.
This April, as part of the solo show of a National award-winning Patta Chitra artist, Bijay Parida, we try to bring out the visual and the philosophical beauty of the poetry seen in the pattachitra paintings of Orissa & Odissi Dance and music with a demo by Smt. Daksha Mashruwala & her disciple Namrata Mehta.
