Levi’s® and music have always been intertwined. Music—like style—helps us define who we are, what we have to say, and what we love. As a values-driven company, we believe it’s important to broadcast what you believe in. Levi’s® Music Week celebrates the power of music to bring people together, unlock creativity, challenge perspectives, and transform culture.
DJ Workshop with Kini Rao in association with SHESAID.SO
She Said So is a curated network of women with active roles in the music industry. The vision is to create a work environment that supports collaboration, diversity and inclusion. The members in this group are across all sectors of the industry - Press, Talent, Music Tech, Management, Record Labels, PR & Marketing, Sync Listening, Publishing, Live Events and more. The objective is to break down gender stereotypes within the music industry, raise awareness of the gender gap and ensure women are aware that support is available, to increase the profile of women who are making an impact and to increase the number of women with active roles in the music industry across all it's verticals.
She Said So has partnered with Levi’s as a part of Levis’ Music Week to offer a 2-hours CDJ Workshop with Kini. The session will demonstrate mixing, perform looping, cue tricks and more using the Pioneer CDJ. The session is FREE and open to ALL.
Kini is a DJ/producer/mixed media artist based out of Mumbai, India. An avid collector of music, her sets accentuate the sounds she loves and in a broader sense fit into the zones of House & Techno. Digging for records that are long-lasting, she steps away from the concept of disposable music and trends to find the kind of quality sound that can be played a decade down the line. She started her career at venues like Zenzi Mills in her hometown gradually playing bigger and bigger floors including after-hours sets at bar 25 Berlin. This is what saw her push boundaries in music from an early stage. From a live broadcast at Boiler Room to collaborating on music culture assignments with British Council/Goethe, Kini’s global tastes and effortless maneuvers across the electronic music spectrum make her hard to define but essential to hear.
I Shape My World - Women In Music
Raja Kumari:
Indian-American rapper, singer, songwriter, and dancer Raja Kumari is a force of nature. She’s a fearless, charismatic personality and natural-born storyteller whose mission is to create art that blends her Indian roots with her American upbringing. Her music is a sonic bridge between East and West that fuses the rhythms she absorbed as a trained classical Indian dancer with her love for hip-hop. Through singles “Mute,” “City Slums” (featuring Mumbai rapper Divine), “Believe In You,” and her latest “I Did It,” as well as her debut EP, The Come Up (the cover features an image of Kumari with her head draped in both a gold tikka and an American flag), Kumari announces that this is the new face of America. “I want my fans to feel one hundred percent seen and to have a safe space to be themselves,” she says. “Because those were the only desires I had as a child.”
Mali:
Mali is the alias of Mumbai based singer-songwriter, Maalavika Manoj. She has toured India extensively, performing at some of the biggest music festivals and collaborating with some of the biggest names in the independent music scene.
