Lavani has been a part of Maharashtra’s cultural milieu for several centuries, with sringar, or eroticism, being a dominant element of this art form. The workshop Liberate through Lavani aims to explain the art of writing lyrics for a Lavani. Along with reading and understanding a Lavani song, this workshop will share expert tips and have participants write a mukhada of a Lavani.

Bhushan Korgaonkar is a writer, translator, and theatre producer. He is the co-founder of the Mumbai-based theatre company Kali Billi Productions. He has worked with traditional Lavani artists in Maharashtra since 2002, which led him to write his award-winning Marathi book Sangeet Bari. This then turned into a critically acclaimed theatre production that is performed across the country and abroad. Along with writing Lavani songs, he also has a few works of Marathi fiction to his name. His audiobooks on the Storytel app are hugely popular with subscribers.
