About the Event
“I love you in this way, since I don't know any other way of loving," Pablo Neruda wrote to express love in his own special way. With this quotation, he has distilled the concept of "love," which is unconditional, limitless, and beyond all logic. Every lover has a special way of expressing their love, and in our play every character—whether they are Abba, Sahib, Chandan, or Jaggu—tends to share and do so in a special way.
The plot revolves around a love triangle that is woven from the normal emotions of falling in love—fantasy, ecstasy, rejection, and dejection. Chandan, the main protagonist, is a professional thief who aims to be a great thief in life, but his uncle thinks he's a moron and doesn’t think he can succeed. This leaves him utterly shaken, and he turns to his friends Antu, Bantu, and Shantu for advice. They ask him to find a motivation in his life—a motivation that will drive him hard to reach heights in life—in order to become a successful man, or a thief, and they come to the conclusion that "falling in love with a girl of his life" will bring fortunes and sail his boat to heights. They also send him to a Lovebug Training Centre to discover the motivation Chandan is lacking in his life.
The training center's director, Master, was unable to end his love story on a happy note and is now attempting to mould the young brains with his bittersweet memories of falling in love. Whereas Jaggu, the play's antagonist, has loved Sahib since he was a little child and thinks that love can only be felt from heart and absolutely rejects the concept of the Lovebug Training Centre and vows to win Sahib’s heart till his last breath.
Sahib, a modern-day independent woman, wants to discover the love of her life on her own and asks her father, Abba, to let her do so. However, Abba, a colourful character, prefers that her daughter should settle down with a man who has a successful business, even if that man is a paanwala. He has a different outlook on life and prefers that her daughter should establish her future rather than waste it waiting to find true love.
On the other hand, Sahib strongly disapproves of the social restrictions placed on girls. He meets Chandan in the interim and over time, he develops feelings for her. But what occurs when a girl with big goals meets someone who is a professional thief and comes from the same society that forbids her from having big dreams and leading a life independently? What transpires after Jaggu meets Chandan and perceives a rival in him? Will the master be able to teach Chandan the art of love? He's good at grabbing chains, but will he be able to grab Sahib's heart as well? The play Lovebug ‘ Pyaar ka Keeda’ resolves all these disagreements, conflicts and questions musically.
