About the Artform
Madhubani art is a traditional style of painting practiced in the Mithila region of India. Tools like twigs, brushes and fingers are used to paint images of mythological creatures and objects. Natural dyes and pigments are used. A different style of Madhubani art, Kachini paintings have their own unique and individual form.
People from the Kayastha community practise this artform which primarily depicts animals, flowers and other natural things. These paintings are made using a monochrome or two colors. Originating from Ranti village in the district of Madhubani, Kachini paintings attract the audience since they highlight the peculiar features of natural aspects with a limited colour range.
