It is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. But our collective action can help turn this around! Join #MahimBeachCleanUp to help clean our coast line, protect our marine life and remove debris from our seas. Since 2017, the initiative has cleared up over 850 tonnes of trash from the sea.
#MahimBeachCleanUp is a UN Environment felicitated citizen movement. The initiative completed 2 years this September and invites you to join in and make this a bigger success.
How can volunteers help?
- Volunteers will remove the litter from the beach
- Segregate plastic from the beach sand
Meet the Team:
Moving to a sea-facing home in Mahim confronted Mumbai couple Indranil Sengupta and Rabia Tewari with the trash washed up on our beaches. This prompted them to take action and clean up the beach front. What started with the two of them armed with gloves and a passion for clean seas in September 2017 has now grown into a large volunteer-driven initiative. They’re doing their bit to keep our oceans and Mahim beach plastic free. They also work towards creating awareness around plastic waste by engaging with the locals and volunteers apart from speaking about the problem on public platforms.
Things to carry:
- Pair of reusable gloves and a bottle of water
- Wear closed shoes and a hat
