To age a costume is to introduce time into it. And time means, in this case, events, experiences, traumas and so on. The aged costume entails a presumption of action in the character- actions we may never actually see. In order to recreate the visual results of these actions, the costume designer may need to tear, burn, distress, scar and mark certain pieces of clothing based on the narrative. The workshop allows the participants to indulge in hands-on techniques to make costumes look authentic and make them belong.
This workshop is for design enthusiasts, costumiers, history majors, fashion students and anyone with an interest in costume design. The workshop fee also includes lunch and refreshments.
Contents:
- Introduction to costumes in film and theatre
- Why do we age costumes?
- Demonstration of a variety of tools and techniques
- Distress your own sample of clothing
