SYNOPSIS
A solo Bharatanatyam Margam celebrating the divine feminine. A bouquet of some traditional & original compositions, that explore the idea of Devi as Sarvagnyam (the omnipresent). The Margam explores these hues through invoking primordial energies , and celebrating Shakti as Meenakshi , Radha and Kali. Opening with an ode to Kalabhairava exploring the paradox of Ghora and Aghora, the Margam concludes with a battle of the forever body & mind metaphorically as Mahamaya slays the Mahisha within us. The Margam is a humble attempt to celebrate the divine feminine within us.
CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTE
The past two years have given us a lot to reflect upon. I was deeply moved by the trauma that we were engulfed with. Being self absorbed with my dancing, did not quite feel right. Because my mind wasn't quite ready. So I paused , perhaps I was looking out to find an alternative perspective into my sadhana. What is the greater purpose of a consistent discipline? Do we all have the same purpose! I found my purpose in Yogic Philosophy. I had some clarity on what sadhana meant to me. There can't be a better word to describe the intent than 'Surrender'. Surrender is the absence of expectations. Articulating surrender via dancing is to purify.
This clarity led me to working on a bouquet of original choreographies. In a traditional format, with an experimental approach, I discovered the narrative that layered this work. Margam : Celebrating The Divine Feminine showcases the rigour and intention of my personal journey. A full cycle and a constant one, the margam celebrates the life force/prana as a feminine force representing the full cycle. Kali as kala (time) devouring Mahakala , Ghora-Aghora as primordial energies that procreate and bring everything back to an undifferentiated Shakti, Devi as a vibrating bindu evolving and disintegrating constantly.Celebrating the many aspects of Devi to culminating in a complete whole , which in vedanta is referred as Sat Chit Ananda (Existence, Consciousness and Bliss)
