About the Event

Museum of Goa (MOG) is a private contemporary art space. Founded by Dr. Subodh Kerkar in 2015, the Museum celebrates Goa’s history and people through contemporary art. MOG is envisioned not just as a repository of objects, but as a laboratory of ideas where all forms of art are in constant dialogue with each other.

The Museum seeks to bring art and local history to larger audiences, in an attempt to bridge the huge cultural gap in the country. Apart from taking contemporary art to the larger public, we are also a pedagogical experiment in narrating history.

Histories of Goa, a permanent exhibition at the Museum, offers a glimpse into the multiple histories of the state, highlighting lesser known stories of its storied past. The exhibition showcases contemporary artists from Goa, as well as artwork inspired by the state. Our gallery is always on the lookout for exciting and new creators to contribute to this dynamic collection.

MOG, also hosts temporary exhibitions all year round, showcasing the best talents from Goa and around the world. Exhibitions at MOG are disparate in their medium and diverse in their messages.

To share our love for art, we organize workshops, art courses, lectures, musical performances and residencies for budding artists. Our weekly lecture series, MOG SUNDAYS, hosts eminent artists, scholars and activists, who speak on subjects close to their heart. The programme strives to bring the finest minds to the people of Goa.

The Museum is housed in a three-storey, 16,000 square foot, building designed by Goan architect, Dean D’cruz, in Pilerne. Adjoining the Museum building is our Sculpture Garden, which displays a few of Dr. Kerkar’s most famous works, including the Carpet of Joy.

MOG translates to ‘love’ in Konkani, and we believe that love and empathy are the tools with which to build the future.
